HALLOWEENSIE CONTEST 2017

I just love entering writing contests. It's challenging to write to a prompt with a specific set of rules, and it's inspiring to read all the other entries. For the second year in a row, I'm entering Susanna Leonard Hill's 7th Annual Halloweensie Contest. As the name implies, it's a "teensy" Halloween contest . . . the word count is 100 words or less. The theme is Halloween, and this year writers must incorporate the following three words (or any form of the words): monster, shadow, and candy corn (which counts as one word). The story must appeal to children ages 12 and under, and must have a full story arc with a beginning, middle and end. Not so easy to accomplish! Here's a link to the contest rules . . . you still have time to join in the ghoulish fun, and also please stop by to read the terrific entries already posted.

I hope you enjoy my story!

Gook luck to all and Happy Halloween!

LITTLE MONSTER

By Melissa Stoller

99 words

Halloween boos every year

Lurking shadows, fright, and fear

Goblins loom, witches broom

Ghosts spreading doom

I’m Little Monster – watch me smile

Whirl, twirl, and beguile

Tutu spins, sequins glitter

Dance, prance, leap, and flitter

I will never dare or scare

Tricks and fright – I don’t care

Let me simply glimmer, shimmer

Eating treats as light glows dimmer

Candy corn, lollipops

Caramel apples, chocolate drops

That is Halloween to me

No tricks just treats, could it be

Yes indeed – I’ll have my day

As myself, my own way

Dancing in costume, house to house

Collecting sweets as a ballerina mouse!
